This year, the 78th Golden Globes Awards was both bicoastal and virtual. Hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who were hosting from the Rockefeller Center in New York City and the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills respectively, really brought the laughs. The night saw a historic win for director and producer Chloe Zhao. She became the country’s first woman of color to win the Best Director award for her motion picture drama Nomadland. Here are some other memorable wins.

Nomadland won the Best Motion Picture (Drama) and Andra Day won Best Actress for her role in the film The United States vs Billie Holiday. Chadwick Boseman won Best Actor in a motion picture posthumously for his role as Levee Green in the film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. His wife Taylor Simone Ledward accepted his award.

Sasha Baron Cohen won Best Actor in a motion picture film for his hilarious portrayal of Kazakhstan’s infamous reporter Borat in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. The film also won the best motion picture in the Musical or Comedy category. Rosamund Pike won Best Actress in a motion picture film (Musical or Comedy) for her performance in I Care a Lot.

The Queen’s Gambit and The Crown walked away with a lot of awards. The Queen’s Gambit won the award for Television Limited Series and its lead Anya Taylor-Joy won Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. Gillian Anderson and Josh O’Connor won awards for their supporting role in The Crown and the show also won Best Television Series in the Drama Category. The Crown’s Emma Corrin won Best Actress for her performance in this hit series about British Royals.

Other notable awards include Schitt’s Creek (Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy), Jason Sudeikis (Best Actor for his role as an upbeat coach in Apple TV’s Ted Lasso), and Catherine O’Hara (Best Actress for her performance as the inimitable Moira Schitt from Schitt’s Creek). The Trial of the Chicago 7, Netflix’s courtroom drama directed by Aaron Sorkin won Best Screenplay for a Motion Picture.
